Princeton Foundation for Peace and Learning is pleased to welcome Hon’ble Justice Hima Kohli on its Board of Advisors.
Justice Kohli served as a Judge in the Supreme Court of India from August 2021 until her superannuation in September 2024. Prior to this, she made history as the first woman Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court in January 2021. During her tenure as Chief Justice of Telangana, she was instrumental in establishing the International Arbitration and Conciliation Centre at Hyderabad and was appointed as the Chancellor of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad. Before joining Telangana High Court, she served as a judge of the Delhi High Court from 2006. She is also the first woman judge from the Delhi High Court to be elevated to the Supreme Court of India. Justice Kohli was the only sitting judge of the Supreme Court to have been certified by the Singapore International Mediation Centre, having completed the SIMC-Specialist Mediator’s Workshop (India) in 2023.
Justice Kohli’s judicial career, spanning over two decades, has left an indelible mark on the Indian judiciary through her unwavering commitment to justice, gender equality, and institutional reform. An important component of her career has been the steadfast dedication to women’s empowerment, alongside her significant contributions to the advancement of arbitration and mediation as dispute resolution mechanisms and environmental jurisprudence, both through legal advocacy and systemic reform.
